The Influence Of Temperature On Acrylic Display Stand

time:2020-08-13

Many properties of plexiglass (especially physical and mechanical properties) show a strong dependence on temperature. The national standard (GB/7134-1996) requires that the testing of various properties of plexiglass must be carried out at the specified temperature (23±200C).

(1) The effect of temperature on the tensile strength and tensile modulus of plexiglass

As the temperature increases, the tensile strength and tensile modulus of elasticity decrease approximately linearly. The reason is: with the increase of temperature, the mobility of polymer material segments increases, and the transition from glass state to high elastic state and viscous flow state gradually occurs, which is manifested in macroscopically as increased flexibility and decreased strength and elastic modulus.

(2) The influence of temperature on the extensibility of plexiglass

With the increase of temperature, the elongation at break of plexiglass when the brittle fracture occurs gradually, and the elongation at break of plexiglass reaches 5.6% at 60℃. When the temperature exceeds a certain temperature, the plexiglass begins to soften and the stretching process is Yield to destruction. The relationship between temperature and plexiglass elongation at break and elongation at yield.

(3) The influence of temperature on the impact strength of plexiglass with different thickness

The temperature has a similar effect on the impact performance of plexiglass. As the temperature increases, the movement of the organic glass molecular chain is strengthened, which is manifested in the macroscopically as increased flexibility and impact strength.

(4) The influence of temperature and other factors on the hardness of plexiglass

The hardness of plexiglass decreases with increasing temperature. In addition, the larger the load value used when measuring the hardness, the lower the measured hardness value. Within a certain range, the greater the thickness of the plexiglass sheet, the higher the measured value; but when the thickness increases to a certain extent, the measured hardness value no longer increases significantly.

(5) The influence of temperature on the Poisson's ratio of plexiglass

Temperature also has a certain effect on the Poisson's ratio of plexiglass. The higher the temperature, the greater the Poisson's ratio.
