The difference between screen printing and UV digital printing process!

time:2020-05-21

From the simple printing of lines, to ink printing, people are no longer satisfied with that. What people need is a printing method with clearer images and more obvious gradation, especially on acrylic products.

How much do you know about the acrylic printing process? Today I am going to tell you about the acrylic [silk screen printing] & [UV digital printing] process.

The difference between screen printing and UV digital printing process!

Acrylic silk screen printing process

Under the pressure of the screen brush, the ink penetrates the silk screen, making the acrylic surface printed with the same pattern as the silk screen. Because of its simple and fast operation, it becomes the most common process for acrylic products.

The advantage of screen printing is that it is cost-saving. If the customer does not have high requirements for product printing, screen printing is a good choice. Not only cost-saving, but also the desired effect can be achieved. The cost of making a printing film for the first time is about 200-300 RMB. In the later stage of processing, if the artwork is same, it can be used all the time. At this time, customers only need to bear the cost of printing, no film charge.

Silk-screen printing requires open printing film, and mix paint (paint mixing requires experience) needs to be based on the given color code. Except white or black, all other colors need paint mixing to achieve.

When acrylic products are screen-printed, if there is only one color, only one film needs to be made; if there are two colors, two film need to be made, and so on. If the customer requires more colors to be printed, corresponding to film charge, labor cost increase. Therefore, when there are many colors or gradient colors, silk screen printing has no advantage. We need to choose according to the actual case.

After the screen printing is completed, because the ink hasn’t not dry, you should not encounter any debris, including handprints and any other items, so as not to affect the effect of the ink screen printing. Only when the ink is completely dry can the next process be carried out!

Acrylic UV digital printing process

Acrylic UV digital printing is different from silk screen printing, patterns directly printed on acrylic. Acrylic UV digital printing is to print a pattern using a flat UV printer and then directly print on the acrylic surface. Only need to transfer the customer's files to the flatbed UV printer, you can directly perform the printing operation.Compared with screen printing, UV digital printing does not need a film, printing process is simple.

Acrylic screen printing can print only one color at a time, while UV digital printing can print colorful patterns, and the gradient color is not a problem. Also, there is a kind of UV digital printing can print out emboss effect, which has more visual effects. It can meet the customers who have high quality requirements for printing, and can also make the products look more high-end and textured.

The difference of adhesion is that the acrylic screen-printing ink has curing agent, which can make the ink adhere better on the acrylic surface. As long as it is not scratched with sharp piece, the pattern will not fall off during normal use. Before the UV printing on acrylic, it is necessary to spray a coating on the printing surface. Because the surface of acrylic is relatively smooth, UV printing directly on the acrylic might cause the printing is easily scraped off. After spraying the coating, the UV pigment can be better adhere to the acrylic and not easy to scrape off.

Acrylic UV digital printing uses UV ink. Whether it is adhesion or outdoor resistance, it is better than the ink used for screen printing, and it can print an embossed effect. When used outdoors, it does not fade and protects against UV rays. UV digital printing is a machine operated that work efficiency is quite good.

Of course, each process has its advantages and disadvantages, and manufacturers and customers need to choose according to their actual situation.
